Once again Garry demonstrates his creative genius
The
shots below are of a jig I use to lay up pieces such as HF424 and Vase
427. The jig alone (Photo 1) shows the indexing arrangement and the 1"x 8tpi screw
for mounting the piece already prepared in a One-Way chuck. I use a separate 12" sanding
wheel, but I also set this jig up on my lathe bed and use a 12" sanding disk on the headstock.
The
other shots (Photos 2 & 3) show a piece part way through the sanding
and glueing up operation. Each facet is sanded and the piece of decorative wood is
glued in. The work is indexed forward and the glued piece is resanded to produce the next
facet. In the case shown here, I have used spring steel, sharpened to make clamps for the
carpenter glue lay up. The clamps are gripping a scrap piece, hot-melt glued temporarily in
the bowl.
