GENERAL 260 LATHES

Members have access to 3 General 260 variable speed lathes - property of the school. - each with a 12" swing and a max. 38" between centres. The club also owns three other lathes. (See below) This allows as many as 6 persons to be turning at any one time. This is especially important during our woodturning courses where hands-on experience is so important.

 

GENERAL 90-450 BANDSAW

 

 

With its 24 inch throat and 13 inch depth of cut, this bandsaw is very popular and sees a lot of service on shop nights as members prepare bowl blanks etc. from green logs.

 

The club purchases, installs and maintains Timberwolf low-tension blades on the saw and they are removed at the end of the evening.

 

GENERAL 780/880 JOINTER

Another popular machine for smoothing a surface of a rough bowl blank to accept a screwed on face-plate.

 



 

THE CLUB NOW OWNS THREE LATHES

  • a Carbatec mini-lathe similar to this one capable of nearly 6" swing and 12" between centres.

 

 

 

  • a JET Mini with a 10" swing over the bed and 14" spindle capacity;

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • a NOVA DVR (electronic variable speed) full-sized lathe with a 14 inch swing

Other tools available - property of the school are a Delta Unisaw, drill presses, a 15" thickness planer to name a few. The club also owns a supply of quality woodturning tools and accessories as well as a grinder for sharpening tools.
